GENERAL RULES
- To review the various practices, google In One Lifetime: Pure Land Buddhism for an online copy.
- Please wear neutral-colored clothing that is discrete and loose. Capris are okay. Socks are to be worn in the apartment.
- Parking is available in the visitor’s area. Please be quiet walking from and to your car.
- Please leave cell phones in your car.
- Come in quietly and place your shoes in the entry-way closet. Put food in the kitchen and personal items in the sitting room at the end of the hallway on the right side. Sign in next to your name on the registration form in the sitting room. If you’re coming at the beginning of the retreat, please plan on being in your chair by 10:25.
- When you enter the cultivation room, please hezang (page twelve, In One Lifetime: Pure Land Buddhism) to the Buddha image. If you’re staying for the whole day, please take a seat closer to the patio doors and at the front of the room so those who come later or have to leave early can sit on the chairs closer to the exit. In the cultivation room, do not talk to others.
- It is considered polite to stand when a Dharma master (monastic) enters or leaves the cultivation room.
- Do not talk inside the building during chanting sessions or Dharma talks. The discussion sessions are to be on the subject of the Dharma talk. Talking at mealtimes is to be done softly and only when necessary.
- In Buddhist centers, we do not waste any food. Please enjoy all the wonderful vegetarian food but only take what you know you will finish.
- If you wish to take a break, you are welcome to use the sitting room but talking is not allowed. Afternoon snacks will be available in the sitting room.
- Retreat time is very special. Please ensure that your behavior does not disturb others. Thank you.
